Play Different Types of Blackjack

In each game the odds vary as do the rules and dealer/player options. A spinoff of Vingt Et Un, or Twenty-One, whose origin dates back to 17th century France, Blackjack is played with one or more normal 52 card playing deck. The winning part is quite simple; whoever draws the highest hand (using Blackjack’s ranking system) without going over 21, wins.
According to Blackjack Rules the suits of the cards have no meaning; the sum of the points the only important thing and each hand is played only against the dealer. This is where the game rules may vary a bit. If you are playing by “Dealer Stands on Hard 17” rules, the Blackjack standard game, the dealer must stay on 17 and hit on 16. “Dealer Stands on Soft 17” means the dealer must stand only if he has accumulated 17 or more total plus he has an ace. Just the opposite of that would be “Dealer Hits on Soft 17”, in which case the dealer hits on soft 17 with an ace. Although many casinos ban it, an occasional game might be played where a doubling technique is used to increase the odds of winning in certain conditions.
In normal Blackjack when a dealer and player tie there is no winner. However, there is game with a variation of that rule called Ties Win, in which a 1:2 win and payoff ratio is used, which increases the player’s odds. The standard Blackjack card values are still apply; face cards are worth 10 and aces can be worth either one or eleven. Depending on house rules, one to eight decks are used, the standard object of the game being to get close to 21 without going over.
Tequila Poker, one of the most popular online Blackjack games, is an interesting variation. Players have the option to bet on the value like in standard Blackjack, or bet on the set as if it were a poker hand. Played with only one deck, after an ante is made the initial four cards are dealt face down, revealed only to the player. If the player chooses not to fold and forfeit the ante, then the decision must be made as to which game mode to play. When choosing to play out the hand with High Tequila, aces will be worth 11 points. Continuing on, a bet the size of the ante is placed, and two more cards are received for a total now of six cards. Out of those six cards the best five cards are chosen to create the hand with the highest value. If the player’s choice is Tequila Poker the best five cards are used to form the best poker type hand the usual poker rankings are used instead of Blackjack values.
Not played in casinos but still played in home games and clubs, another variation of Blackjack is One-and-Thirty. Just as the name indicates, instead of aiming for a total of twenty-one points without going over, the goal is 31 or less. Hands with totals that exceed that mean an automatic loss. Each card uses face value; face cards are worth 10. However, a difference here is that aces can only hold a value of one, and not eleven. Also players are playing against each other, not against the dealer, so no unique bets are made. A bet is agreed upon and everyone places the same bet.
Another game which originated in France over 200 years ago but is now, for the most part obsolete, is Quinze. The playing rules are similar to those of Blackjack, but differ slightly in that total point goal are 15, not 21.
Regular Blackjack is definitely the people’s choice whether seated at a table or playing Blackjack online. It is easy to learn and allows the player to win against the house. Played independently against the dealer and according to house rules, typical payoff is 1:1, with players winning the same amount they bet.
Varying only a little is Spanish 21 is another extremely popular game. The tens are removed from the deck, but the actual playing of the game is nearly the same as that of Regular Blackjack, except that the dealer is obligated to hit soft 17, when he has a six and an ace for a total of seventeen; also a player has the option to split and even re-split any two cards. This applies to aces as well. A nice twist in this game is that a player blackjack is immediately paid. Another nice thing is that a player can opt out of the game at any time; payoffs vary a bit from casino to casino.
With Double Exposure Blackjack the direction takes a distinctive turn. As the title indicates, the dealer’s two cards are exposed and the dealer wins each tie. Only if a player lands a natural blackjack does he or she win and that pays even money. Splits are allowed only once.
Single Deck Blackjack is exactly what one might think; it is played with one deck of cards, instead of the traditional 4-8 decks. This game is preferred because it gives the player the distinct advantage of being able to keep track of which cards have been played allowing one to calculate which card will be turned up next. Because of this distinct advantage of player-over-house the payouts are usually changed to protect the house a bit.
An online Blackjack favorite is “Blackjack Switch”. Played in the traditional Blackjack way, Switch presents just a few differences. While the dealer must hit soft 17, like in other versions, in this game players are required to play two hands, placing equal bets on both. Here’s the switch. A player is allowed to pull the second card out of each of their two hands, putting them together for an additional hand. Unless a player has a blackjack, if a dealer hits twenty two points, he can push against any player; normally even money is paid for a blackjack.
Vegas Strip Blackjack, one of the most widely played variations of Blackjack, and not to be confused with Vegas Downtown Blackjack, is well-liked for its inclination toward a slightly lower house edge. The more playing cards there are, the better the odds of receiving the cards needed. Generally played with 4 decks of cards, although sometimes more are used, with this game the dealer must draw on any totals under 17 and stand on all totals from 17 to 21. Players can double down on an initial hand. They can also split any pair, which in turn is treated like an initial hand, with the exception of aces; players can receive only one card on those splits. Up to three splits are allowed and typically doubling after the splits is also allowed. The exception to that would be that aces can only be split one time and once an ace is split it can no longer make blackjack, only 21.
BlackJack Rules
Blackjack is a card game played between the dealer and the players. It is one of the most popular and widely played casino card games in the world, and online blackjack has gained popularity in recent years as well. The object of the game is to have a higher hand than the dealer without going over 21. If the dealer goes over 21, all players who didn’t bust (go over 21) win the hand.
In a typical hand of blackjack the dealer deals two rounds of cards from left to right until each player has two cards. The players’ cards are face up, and the dealer has one card face up with one card face down. Once all the players have received their cards they have several options on how to proceed depending on the strength of their own hands versus the dealer’s hand. Any player who has a hand with a value of less than 21 has the option to hit, or take another card. The player can choose to hit again assuming the hand hasn’t gone over 21. Any hand that goes over 21 is said to have busted (the object is to come as close to 21 without going over). If a player is satisfied with his or her hand and doesn’t want another card, he or she can choose to stand and give the other players at the table a chance to make their decisions on how they want to play. Players can also double-down, in which case they double their bets for one more card. They cannot hit again, however. Players use double-down when the dealer has a particularly weak face up card and they have good starting hands. It can be a good way for players to double their winnings if it is played correctly.
If a player has two of the same cards, he or she has the option to split the hand. When this happens the player doubles the bet and the hand is split into two hands of play. The player can play these hands as normal and hit or stand according to standard blackjack rules. The only exception is splitting aces which the dealer doesn’t have the option to hit after the split.
In some forms of blackjack such as Spanish 21, the player has the option to surrender his or her hand if it’s likely a losing hand. Half of the surrendering player’s bet is returned. This is usually not an option according to American blackjack rules.
If the dealer’s exposed card is an ace, the players have the option to take insurance. Insurance is a bet that the dealer has blackjack (two cards with a combined value of 21, which can only be an ace with a 10 or a face card), and is equal to half of a player’s total bet. If the dealer has blackjack, players who have taken insurance have their full bets returned to them. If the dealer does not have blackjack, the player will lose the insurance but continue the hand with their original bet and play as normal. Insurance is only a good idea for players with a very strong starting hand (18, 19, or 20). It’s not a good idea for players with a marginal hand because there’s a good chance that those players will lose the hand anyway.
It is also important to note that there are rules that the dealer must usually follow. These rules apply whether one is playing blackjack in a casino or blackjack online. Standard casino blackjack rules state that the dealer must stand on any hand with a value of 17 or higher. This also means that the dealer has to hit on any hand until they reach 17 or bust. Standing on a fairly weak hand and letting the dealer bust is a common strategy for many players. If a player is dealt a blackjack, the dealer must pay 1 1/2 times the bet unless the dealer also has a blackjack. If the dealer has an ace as his or her exposed card, the players must be given the chance to take insurance. If the dealer’s exposed card is a 10 or a face card and the dealer’s face down card is an ace, the players automatically lose.
These rules apply to standard blackjack played online and in American casinos. There are different varieties of the game, but these are the basic rules that are important to remember for those learning to play blackjack online or at a casino table. ?
